I have been involved in real estate and stock/bond market investing since 1978. I have run and built companies.
I became a stockbroker after renovating old houses and apartment buildings in my early twenties, then got into portfolio management and then founded Roderick MacIver & Co. Inc., an investment research firm in New York City focusing on distressed and deeply-undervalued securities. Roderick MacIver & Co. Inc had over 100 institutional and corporate clients who paid between $10,000 and $60,000 a year for my firm's research. See 1987 Barron’s article.
Seeking a quieter life, in 1990 I moved to the Adirondacks in upstate New York, founded a successful publishing business and ran that for twenty-five years. In 2014, I began the transition to full time investing. Roderick MacIver & Co. Inc. was formed in 2016 as the corporate entity for my consulting, research and writing.
I divide my time between Burlington Vermont, a home in New York’s Adirondack Park and Amelia Island in Northeast Florida.
